As part of our continued intervention in the Kai !Garib Municipality, the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality conducted an on-the-ground programme focused on water security and community engagement.

The Executive Mayor, Councillor Maryna Basson, was accompanied by the Speaker of Council, Councillor Stanley Peterson; the Mayor of the Kai !Garib Local Municipality, Councillor Marshall Matthys; the ZFM Chief Whip, Councillor Joseph Silo and Councillor George during a visit to the upgraded Lutzburg Water Treatment Plant. The upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure sufficient capacity, improved infrastructure and reliable access to water for communities.

The Kai !Garib Local Municipality operates approximately 17 water treatment plants, each serving a specific area. The Lutzburg plant has been enhanced both operationally and structurally to strengthen water provision while improving the condition of the facility.

In addition, the District delegation engaged directly with community interest groups, creating space for open, two-way communication around challenges, concerns and expectations. These engagements remain critical in ensuring that interventions are informed by lived realities on the ground.

The District’s water distribution programme also continued today in Kenhardt, reinforcing our commitment to support communities using available resources while longer-term solutions are stabilised.

Water is a basic human right and through coordinated leadership and practical action, the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality remains committed to supporting the Kai !Garib Local Municipality and its communities during this period.
