Kai !Garib Municipality Alerts Residents on Circulating WhatsApp Message and Potential Revenue Risks.

The Kai !Garib Local Municipality wishes to alert all residents, businesses, farmers, institutions and stakeholders regarding a WhatsApp message currently circulating within communities relating to representations to Eskom and matters concerning municipal services and revenue.

The Municipality acknowledges the concerns being raised and urges residents to engage responsibly and seek verified information through official municipal communication platforms before taking any action that may have unintended consequences for service delivery and the financial sustainability of the Municipality.

Municipal revenue — including payments for electricity, water and other services — remains the primary means through which the Municipality is able to maintain infrastructure, respond to faults, deliver basic services and implement development programmes within communities.

Should the Municipality experience a significant loss of revenue income, this may result in:

• Reduced capacity to maintain and repair critical infrastructure such as electricity networks, water systems and roads;
• Delays in responding to service delivery complaints and emergencies;
• Limitations on new infrastructure projects and community development initiatives;
• Increased financial pressure which could impact the Municipality’s long-term sustainability and service standards.

The Municipality therefore calls on all residents to continue honouring their municipal accounts and to engage constructively with the Municipality on any concerns relating to billing, services or affordability challenges.

Residents are encouraged to make use of official municipal channels, including the customer care centre, ward councillors and municipal offices, to seek clarity, lodge queries or request assistance.
