KAI !GARIB LOCAL MUNICIPALITY MOURNS THE TRAGIC LOSS OF THE MATTHYS FAMILY
Kai !Garib Local Municipality extends its deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Matthys family, who tragically lost seven family members in a fatal motor vehicle accident on the R27 between Calvinia and Brandvlei.
The devastating incident has left the Keimoes community and the broader Kai !Garib municipal area in profound shock and mourning. The loss of multiple generations of one family, including young children, is a tragedy that has touched the hearts of residents across the municipality and the Northern Cape.
Local Mayor, Cllr M. Matthys, said:
“We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking tragedy. On behalf of the Council, administration and the people of Kai !Garib Local Municipality, we extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved family during this unimaginable time of grief. We pray that they find strength, comfort and support from their loved ones and the community as they come to terms with this devastating loss.”
As a gesture of solidarity and support, Mayor Cllr M. Matthys will visit the bereaved family during the course of the week to personally convey the Municipality’s condolences and offer comfort during this difficult time.
The Municipality also conveys its appreciation to the emergency services, law enforcement agencies and all first responders who attended the scene and continue to provide assistance.
As the relevant authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, the Municipality appeals to all motorists to exercise caution, obey the rules of the road and prioritise the safety of all road users.
Kai !Garib Local Municipality stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and the entire community during this difficult period. The Municipality joins all residents in mourning this tragic loss and keeps the family in its thoughts and prayers.
