Press statement

Water levels remain high due to the combined releases from Vanderkloof Dam and Bloemhof Dam which is 2275,75 m³/s this morning .

Water level at Upington has reach the peak and will stay as it is for the next 24 hours. I also attached information to give you an indication, water levels will drop as from 26 November 2022, but still it will not reach the normal flow soon.

Water levels will differ in the Orange River depending on the width and depth of the river. Communication will follow as updates are received.

Farming communities along the river system are advised to adjust water pumps and to remove livestock and mining equipment out and away from the river due to the expected rise in water levels. Provincial Disaster Teams, District and Local Authorities should be on high alert to put measures in place to avoid loss of human lives, livestock and damage to property – No fishing or swimming should be allowed under these circumstances. Please alert water users and river communities accordingly.
